In this article, you will discover how to implement cascading parameters that filter a set of predefined values based on the selection made in another parameter.
How to create Cascading parameters
Step 1: Create two dashboard parameters
- Create a dashboard parameter with dynamic list settings in accordance with what you are trying to portray.
- The parameter settings may look like the above picture portrays.
- Here is what an example of a second parameter may look like.
Step 2: Filter the query by going to the Data Sources tab on the Dashboard menu
- For each of the parameters, you are now going to filter the queries. So to filter the query of Parameter 1, select Parameter 1 first.
- Next click on the Data Sources page of the Dashboard menu.
- Highlight the query you would like to edit and click on the Filter button to pull up the Filter Editor.
- In the Filter Editor, specify the filter criteria. An example of what that might look like is below
- Repeat that process for Parameter 2, making sure to highlight Parameter 2 first in the Parameters tab and then add any filters you would like to it in the Data Sources tab.
Step 3: Create a Grid item to visualize data from the filtered query.
You have now created Cascading Parameters in a Dashboard.
