Failover is the ability to seamlessly and automatically switch to a backup system when the primary PBRS Server fails. This will reduce or eliminate negative user impact. This is how to set up a Failover System in PBRS.
Prerequisite
Collaboration must be enabled and configured before the Failover feature will work.
When updating the Failover Server you must update the Failover Server as the last server.
Scheduler - Failover Server
You should select one of the collaboration servers to become the Failover Server for the Primary Server. The Failover Server will become the Main Scheduler in the event that the Primary Server fails.
- Once Collaboration has been enabled and configured you are ready to set up the Failover Server.
On the server that will become the Failover Server.
Step 1: Navigate to Options and select Scheduler.
Step 2: Check 'Use as a backup scheduler server (Failover), checkbox.
Step 3: Click Apply and OK. You should restart the failover server.
The Failover Server is set up.
How do I revert the System once the Primary Server comes back online?
The scheduler on both the Primary and Failover Server will need to be uninstalled.
To uninstall the scheduler on both servers, follow steps 1-5 below:
Step 1: Navigate to Options and select Scheduler
Step 2: Check No Scheduling required checkbox.
Step 3: Click Apply Setting.
Step 4: Click Yes.
On both the Primary and Failover servers, you will need to reset "Collaboration Leader" to the Primary Server.
Step 1: Go to pbrslive.config in the PBRS Folder. (typically C:
Step 2: Open the file using notepad or a similar application.
Step 3: Search for 'collaborationleader'.
Step 4: Change the value in the setting below it from the Failover Server's name to the Primary Server's name
Step 5: Save the file.
Install the scheduler services on the Primary Server.
Step 1: Go to Options and select Scheduler.
Step 2:Configure the Scheduler.
Step 3: Do not check the option to "Use as a backup scheduler server (Failover) as this is the primary server.
Now reset the Failover status on the Failover Server, to do this you will need to Install the scheduler services on the Failover Server.
Step 1: Go to Options and select Scheduler.
Step 2: Configure the Scheduler.
Step 3: Check 'Use as a backup scheduler server (Failover)' option.
Start the scheduler services on both servers.
The system has now been reverted to its original state.
