Configure PBRS General Options

Configure PBRS user experience, error handling, maintenance, logging, report execution, and Process Watcher settings.

Open General options

1. Select Options at the top of PBRS.

Options PBRS Home Screen

2. Select General.

Use the General tab to configure user experience, error handling, miscellaneous system behavior, reporting behavior, and Process Watcher settings. Review changes carefully because several options affect all users or scheduled processing.

User Experience

  • Customer #: Displays the customer number associated with the PBRS license and support account. Enter the number supplied by ChristianSteven if the field is blank.

A trial installation may not display a customer number. Contact ChristianSteven if you need assistance with a trial or cannot identify the correct customer number.

  • Automatically Refresh Desktop: Refreshes the PBRS desktop at the interval you specify so schedule information remains current without a manual refresh.
  • Only convert remote paths to UNC: Converts remote or shared paths to Universal Naming Convention (UNC) paths while leaving local paths unchanged.
  • Use Relative time: Displays and saves times using either the Scheduler server time zone or the user time zone when they differ.

Error Handling

Use the Error Handling settings to configure notifications and the handling of PBRS error messages.

  • Send an Email: Sends an email notification when a report fails. Enter a valid recipient address and ensure email settings are configured.
  • Send an SMS: Sends an SMS notification when a report fails. Enter a valid telephone number and ensure SMS delivery is configured.
  • Close Oops Messages after X Seconds: Automatically closes error-message windows after the specified number of seconds.

PBRS writes diagnostic information to its log files. You can also review system activity in the System Monitor.

Misc

  • Sync User Defaults across all clients: Synchronizes User Defaults between PBRS installations that connect to the same PBRS database.
  • Automatically check for updates: Checks for available PBRS updates and displays an alert. If disabled, review the Product Info & Updates page for release information.
  • Load SSRS cascading parameters automatically: Loads cascading parameters for SQL Server Reporting Services reports.
  • Filter folder view based on your group access rights: Shows only folders available to the current user through group permissions.
  • Update Power BI embed URL every (Days): Refreshes stored Power BI report embed URLs at the specified interval.
  • Enable daily automated system backups: Enables the configured daily PBRS system-backup process.
  • Enable detail view paging in-app window: Displays PBRS detail-view results in pages within the application window.

Reports

  • Show hidden report parameters (SSRS): Displays parameters marked as hidden in SSRS reports.
  • Enable system verbose logging: Records additional information about schedules, outputs, files, and errors. Enable it when detailed diagnostics are required; increased logging can create additional log data.
  • Use "ReportExecution" Endpoint for Report Execution: Uses the SSRS ReportExecution endpoint when rendering SSRS reports. Enable this compatibility option only when it is required by the reporting environment.
  • Suppress error message when a report is blank: Prevents PBRS from displaying the "Report is blank" message when a manually executed report returns no content.
  • Skip SSRS Parameters where the value is an empty string: Omits SSRS parameters whose value is an empty string.
  • Set schedule's next run before it runs: Calculates and saves the schedule's next-run time before the current execution begins.

Enable Process Watcher: Displays active schedule processes and is required when using Execute On to select a PBRS Collaborator server.
