Match the File Specification
The receiving system determines the required fields, separator, delimiter, header convention and extension. Small differences can stop a file from loading.
Tableau CSV Export Automation

Give your vendors and business systems the data files they expect. ATRS automates Tableau CSV exports with the file structure, naming and delivery settings your recurring reports need.
Configure separators, delimiters and whether to include column headers.
Name files for the reporting period and choose the required extension.
Deliver recipient-specific files by email, FTP, network folder or cloud storage.
Run on a schedule or supported event, with configured protection and delivery monitoring.
The Data-File Challenge
A supplier portal or business application may expect a specific separator, no header row and a filename tied to yesterday’s reporting period. A one-off download leaves your team to repeat that preparation and delivery.
The receiving system determines the required fields, separator, delimiter, header convention and extension. Small differences can stop a file from loading.
A report produced this morning may contain yesterday’s activity. Its name needs to tell the receiving team which period the data covers.
A vendor may collect files from FTP while an internal team uses a network folder. Each recurring delivery needs the right content and destination.
Native Tableau or ATRS
Tableau already exports data as CSV. Use native downloads for occasional requests; choose ATRS Tableau report scheduler when the job also needs configured file formatting, recurring production and destination control.
Tableau’s Data and Crosstab downloads provide CSV files for permitted users. tabcmd can export a view’s summary data as CSV. A maintained script can add scheduling, file conversion and transfer when your team owns those steps.
Keep the export format, naming, destination and schedule together. Set the separator, delimiter and header option, personalize the selected report values, then deliver the finished file through your configured destination.
Standard view and workbook subscriptions send image or PDF snapshots. With the required Prep Conductor setup and licensing, Tableau Prep offers a separate prepared-data route; eligible Tableau Server flow notifications can attach CSV outputs. See Tableau download options, tabcmd export commands and Prep flow notifications.
Compare the Whole Delivery
Several Tableau tools produce CSV files. The useful comparison is whether the chosen approach supplies the required file structure, reporting date, destination and operating controls.
| Alternative | What It Already Offers | When ATRS Fits the Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| InfoBurst | Exports selected Tableau views as CSV. Its documentation distinguishes Tableau CSV from Excel CSV controls for other source types and notes a Tableau column-order limitation. | ATRS provides documented separator, delimiter, header and naming controls for CSV delivery. Choose it when that configured output meets your vendor’s file specification. |
| MailScheduler | Schedules filtered Tableau CSV attachments, with CSV delimiter and extension controls, configurable filenames and an option to email empty CSVs. | Bring CSV settings, file destinations, event conditions and ZIP or PGP protection into one ATRS reporting job. |
| PushMetrics | Exports filtered view CSV and crosstab CSV. It also offers subsequent tasks, including CSV database writeback and SFTP upload. | Use ATRS to manage CSV structure and recurring delivery within your own Windows environment. Include PushMetrics’ writeback capability in your decision when direct database loading is the main requirement. |
Configure the CSV output in the destination’s Format settings, so recurring files follow the same choices.
Select a character separator or tab, and set the delimiter used around values. Match the conventions required by the receiving application.
Use Ignore Header when the receiver expects the first row to contain data. Keep headers when the recipient needs field names.
Select Standard in the Export Engine field for standard CSV output.
See the ATRS CSV format guide for the documented controls.
Set the naming rule once, then reuse it on every scheduled run.
Replace the default report name with a name that identifies the feed, vendor or business unit. Insert available constants or database values when the name changes by recipient.
Keep .csv or configure another extension, such as .txt, when the receiving application requires it.
Create dated files for a reporting archive, or use a stable name when the receiver expects the latest file to replace its predecessor in the same folder.
Use the day offset when this morning’s file should carry yesterday’s date—for example, supplier_orders_2026-10-12.csv for a run on 13 October. Set the report’s data period separately.
Timing and Transfer
Connect recurring data-file delivery to the timetable or operational signal that makes sense for your team.
Run daily, weekly or on a custom business calendar. Use an event-based schedule when a supported database, file or email condition should start the export. An extract-refresh task can run before report production.
Use the FTP destination’s upload-retry option when a transfer fails. Review each destination’s result in schedule history so your team can see which file needs attention.
Configure a blank-report check and choose whether to skip delivery or run an exception task. Set the retry and notification response for failed jobs.
Explore event-based schedules and FTP destination setup.
Use a maintained delivery table when the same report needs different selections and destinations for different recipients.
Use data-driven filters and parameters to select the vendor, location or reporting period for each generated file.
Supply filenames, recipients and destination instructions from data, so routine changes are made in your maintained source.
Route each file to its configured mailbox or storage location, using the recipient’s authorized data selection.
See data-driven Tableau schedules for the configuration details.
Send a file to the place where a person or downstream process will collect it.
Attach a CSV to an email, save it to a local or network folder, or send it through a configured FTP or SFTP connection. Use the destination’s credentials and path.
Use supported destinations such as Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, Google Drive, Dropbox or SharePoint for recurring file delivery.
Compress outputs into a ZIP and configure password protection, or use PGP encryption when the receiver can decrypt it. Defer scheduled delivery when the file should be generated before its release time.

Industry Examples
These illustrative scenarios show how file settings and delivery controls come together for different recipients.
A supplier-planning team sends each approved vendor a daily order and quantity extract. ATRS applies the vendor selection and delivers a CSV with the agreed separator, header convention and filename to its configured FTP directory.
An operations analyst needs yesterday’s shipment-status file each morning. ATRS generates the selected CSV, applies the reporting-date name and saves it to a network folder for the receiving process to collect.
A retail partner’s inventory team receives a weekly inventory file covering its authorized locations and product selection. A data-driven schedule supplies the location filters, filename and Amazon S3 destination; configured PGP protects the file when the partner’s process supports it.
Setup and Evaluation
Install ATRS on a supported Windows host, connect to Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud, and configure an account with the required Tableau export permissions and destination credentials. Then compare one exported file with the receiver’s specification.
Confirm the selected report values, expected rows, field names and column order. Include representative dates, identifiers, decimal values and empty values.
Check the separator, delimiter, headers, extension and reporting-date filename. Include values containing separators, quotes or line breaks, and check encoding with the receiving application.
Verify the final path and any ZIP or PGP handling. Review each destination’s result in ATRS history, then confirm that the receiving system accepts and processes the file.

Yes. ATRS generates the configured Tableau CSV output and delivers it on a recurring schedule. Event-based schedules can also start the job from a supported condition.
Yes. Select Ignore Header in the CSV Format Options when the receiving system expects data without a header row.
Yes. Choose a character or tab as the separator and configure the delimiter. These settings define how fields and values are separated in the exported file.
Yes. Use Customize output extension in the Naming settings, for example to deliver a character-separated file with a .txt extension. Changing the extension does not change the data structure.
Yes. Append a date/time stamp and adjust it by days when the name needs a reporting-date offset. Set the report’s date selection separately; the naming offset does not change its data.
A file with the same name sent to the same folder can replace the previous file. Append a date/time stamp when you want distinct files, and verify the receiving destination’s overwrite behavior.
Yes. Use an FTP destination for configured FTP or SFTP delivery, or a Disk destination for a local or network folder. Configure the credentials and path. FTP settings include the port, remote directory, passive mode, applicable ASCII mode, and certificate or proxy settings. Select transfer options for the protocol in use.
Yes. Data-driven schedules use maintained report values and delivery instructions to generate recipient-specific files. Authorization for each recipient’s data must be established separately.
Yes. ATRS can compress outputs into a ZIP with configured password protection or apply PGP encryption. The receiving process must support unpacking or decrypting the chosen output.
It establishes the reported transfer result for that destination. Confirm downstream acceptance and ingestion with the receiving system; a successful upload alone does not prove that the data was processed.
The selected Tableau content and export behavior determine which rows and columns are returned. CSV export does not automatically include every underlying row or reproduce the displayed column order. Compare the output with the fields and ordering your receiving system requires.
Yes. Use a report package to deliver several configured CSV files together, with ZIP protection if required. Packaging keeps the files together; it does not merge them into one validated CSV.
